Clinical Specialty Recognition: What's In It For Me?

This session will include a presentation by the Council for Clinical Specialty Recognition with a general overview of specialty recognition and specific information regarding the current Specialty Boards. The presentation will be followed by an opportunity for participants to talk with members of the Council and the three current Specialty Boards: Child Language, Fluency Disorders, and Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders.
Conducting Your Accreditation Self-Study: Where to Start

Are you having trouble deciding where to start in preparing your CAA application? Engaging in self-study as an ongoing process supports programs' long-term planning and identifies strengths, accomplishments, and improvement areas. Although linked, self-study and accreditation processes are parallel but different, allowing for internal assessment and external peer review. Join CAA members and faculty as successful strategies and personal experiences are shared about conducting a self-study, avoiding typical “problem” areas, and suggesting do's and don'ts.
New Investigator Roundtable

This session is for individuals in the beginning stages of an academic-research career to interact with more experienced investigators in an informal setting. Tables are arranged by topic area, with 1–3 senior investigators serving as topic coordinators for each table. Attendees are free to move about the room and participate in discussion on as many (or as few) topics as they would like.
The Clinical Fellowship Experience: What You Need to Know

This popular session, designed for Clinical Fellows and Clinical Fellowship mentors/supervisors, will provide important, current information on the Clinical Fellowship (CF) experience. Topics discussed will include the purpose of the CF, requirements for the experience, what clinical fellows should know in selecting a mentor/supervisor, what materials must be submitted to report the experience, and the responsibilities of CF mentors/supervisors.
Higher Education Data System (HES) Update

This presentation will provide a general overview of the Higher Education Data System (HES); HES survey schedule; reports and recommendations for managing administrative roles necessary for programs to successfully complete HES instruments. New and existing program directors or their designees, who would like to learn more about the HES, improve the efficiency of survey completion and to speak with individuals who represent the HES instrument owners (ASHA, CAPCSD and the CAA) are encouraged to attend.

Council For Clinical Certification (CFCC) Update

The Council For Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC) will provide updated information on their activities during the year. Included in the presentation will be information on the status of revised audiology certification standard and information the status of the Practice Analysis in Speech-Language Pathology. There will be an opportunity for meet members of the CFCC and ask questions concerning issues in certification.

CAA members will walk you through the online submission process for your annual report or application, describe the data you'll need to collect in advance, and identify resources available to help you. Directors or other faculty who will be responsible for preparing and submitting accreditation reports are encouraged to attend.

PhD Education: New Ways to Frame the Traditional Curriculum

This session, sponsored by Academic Affairs in response to the Strategic Plan developed by the Ad Hoc Committee on PhD Shortages, offers information on innovative program models to meet the diverse needs of contemporary students. Nancy Creaghead and Larry Humes present two approaches to PhD education: the incorporation of distance learning technology and a Bachelor's to PhD framework. Individuals interested in pursuing the PhD and academic programs developing new models are encouraged to attend.

For graduate programs that anticipate a 2010 CAA site visit, this session will prepare you for a successful, comprehensive visit. CAA members will provide tips on developing agendas and preparing documentation in advance, and describe the conduct of the visit so that you can feel confident going into the site visit. Program directors and faculty members who are part of a program having a CAA visit in calendar year 2010 are encouraged to attend.
