ASHA Convention CEU Information

One of the Biggest Continuing Education Opportunities of the Year!

You can complete as many as 25 hours (2.5 ASHA CEUs) at the ASHA Convention.

To maximize your credits:

  • Familiarize yourself with the policies for earning credit (below).
  • Plan your schedule in advance, selecting sessions that do not overlap in time.
  • Keep a personal log of sessions you attend.
  • Promptly report your completed sessions online after Convention.

Policies for Earning Continuing Education Credit at Convention

  • You must attend a session in full to claim it for credit. The system will not permit you to claim sessions that overlap in time (but see special rules for posters, below).
  • Credits are awarded for participation in short courses, instructional courses, posters, seminars, technical sessions, and exhibitor sessions.
  • Credits are not awarded for committee and board meetings, exhibits, special events, social activities, or sessions with content that does not pertain to the science or practice of the professions. Lunchtime sessions presented by ASHA boards and committees are not eligible for credit.

Posters

To claim a poster for credit, you must visit it during the 90-minute period listed in “My Planner” when the authors are scheduled to be present.

  • Each poster counts for 15 minutes of credit. You may claim up to 6 poster sessions in a 90-minute time period.
  • You may claim credit for posters you visit between seminars and other instructional programs, provided the visit occurs during the 90-minute period when the authors are present.

Online Reporting: Deadline Monday, December 21, 2009.

All reporting of continuing education credits from Convention will be online. You may enter your completed sessions starting on Thursday, November 19. You will have until midnight on Monday, December 21, to finalize and submit your session list. You may review and edit your session list as many times as you like before you finalize it.

Who Should Report Continuing Education Credits? Everyone!

Even if you don't currently need continuing education for licensure or CCC maintenance, you should report your completed sessions online. It doesn't cost you anything, and if you ever need to report your educational activities at this Convention, you will have your online session report.

ASHA CEUs and Professional Development Hours (PDHs)

ASHA CEUs are awarded only through the ASHA Continuing Education Registry and require payment of the annual Registry fee ($24 for members, $34 for nonmembers, rising to $25/$35 in 2010.) If you prefer not to join the Registry and earn ASHA CEUs, you should still record your sessions online. You will be able to print out a copy of your session report showing the total number of professional development hours (PDHs) you earned. PDHs apply toward ASHA certification maintenance.

Why Join the CE Registry?

The Registry provides a permanent, cumulative record of CEUs you earn from any ASHA Approved CE Provider. An ASHA CE Registry transcript is considered an authoritative document, and is recognized by all state regulatory agencies that mandate CE for renewal of licensure. If you are selected for audit for CCC maintenance, you will not need to provide any additional documentation if you have 3.0 ASHA CEUs recorded on the Registry during your maintenance interval.

Presenters

If you are a presenter, you may claim your own session for credit, receiving the same amount of credit as a participant (15 minutes, in the case of a poster).

Exhibitors

Exhibitors who are using one of their company's complimentary full-convention registrations are eligible to attend sessions and earn continuing education credit. Exhibitors who are using an exhibit hall only badge are not eligible to attend sessions or earn continuing education credit.

ASHA CE Registry Transcripts

You will be able to print your session report as soon as you finalize and submit your convention record online. To order an ASHA CE Registry Transcript, use the online transcript request form. Your transcript including ASHA CEUs earned at the ASHA Convention will be mailed:

  • During the week of December 7, 2009 if sessions are finalized on or before November 30, 2009; or
  • During the week of January 4, 2010 if sessions are submitted between December 1 and December 21.

Late Records and Corrections

It is your responsibility to enter your Convention sessions online and check your session list for accuracy by December 21. To record credits or correct your session list after then requires an appeal with a $50 processing fee. Contact ASHA Professional Development (ashaprofdev@asha.org) for more information.

AAA CEUs

Audiologists can earn AAA CEUs at the ASHA Convention. Information on how to obtain AAA CEUs will be available onsite.
